This car has left its mark on the muscle car industry

The infamous “1977” Pontiac Trans am from the film Smokey & The Bandit starring non-other than the late Burt Reynolds has left its mark on the muscle car industry. The film proved to be a success, in achieving a gross 126.7 million dollars, making it the 2nd highest earning movie of 1977 behind Star Wars.

The movie car featured was actually a 1976 model as the 1977 was not yet released by General Motors. The 4 movie cars supplied by GM were 1976 models with the 1977 front clips off the soon to be released update. Only one of the four movie cars supplied survived, with the others having been destroyed as a consequence of various stunts.

ICONIC Classic Cars in Knysna is proud to have an unmolested 1979 model with original bronze paint and honeycomb wheels. Burt Reynolds was also known to have had a 1979 in black. Owned and untouched by the same individual for the past 25 years she is now having a heart transplant with a fully built 350 Chev, a common swap from the tired 4.9 non – turbo as originally supplied.

We hope to have her back on the road as soon as possible. Further improvements are to be made to brakes and suspension. Paint will remain as is to preserve the 1979 patina.
