STARTER CLASSICS: Jaguar XJ6
We take a look at the XJ 6, Series 1, 4.2 straight 6 engineSold for R 155 000 in August, 2021 at Iconic Classic Cars, to an overseas buyer
“Somewhere between the lavish Bentley and a timeless Mercedes-Benz, is where you find Jaguar…more specifically the XJ 6 series 1.”Debuting in 1968 as Jaguar’s official flagship four door saloon which would turn out to serve as Jaguars ‘Iconic’ model throughout the 70’s.
The original model still serves as the generation platform for the luxury car series reaching up until 2019. The XJ’s straight 6 engine sits on the very same engine block as the Iconic E-type (which sells for 10 fold the price of its ‘little brother’, the XJ6).The Series 1 – is furthermore most famous for being the ‘last’ Jaguar saloon to have the input of the companies founder; Sir William Lyons in its design and build. Making this beauty certainly historical enough and therefore a must have item for any degree of jaguar enthusiast or collector. At this price point (bearing in mind that this car reprensents the very best of British engineering, with no production costs spared, which in itself is Iconic for its era)…it’s hard to comprehend but true to maintain this timeless piece as still merely a “Starter Classic”………
“One that’s sure to appreciate over time” with minimal maintenance expenditure and a pleasant driving experience. Our Jaguar XJ 6 from 1971 is a Series 1 with original interior. The colour and engine were original as from factory we gave the car detailing, and so sold her as a ‘snag free’ display vehicle for a renouned UK collector.
